Don't feel bad crazykid, 2 months is a timeframe, not the amount of time spent programming.

For example, I've been fooling around with c++ for about 3 years now, doing little things here and there, but I only really started programming heavily about 1.5 years ago. So, does that mean that I have been programming for 3 years, and I'm this far ahead in programming because of 3 years experience? Hell no.

So my point is that your 2 months and other's 2 months can be quite different. For example, I taught myself how to program, and after I picked up c++ again and really started getting into it, I spend over 6 hours a day reading and writing programs for the first 6 months. 6 hours a day, and comparing that to 2 months, that's 360 hours+ I'd worked on programming.

Think about it, that's more than you get assigned all year for computer science homework in highschool, and I did that in 2 months.

So ateto, for example, could have programmed as much as I did, rather than going to some class and slowly progressing with the rest of the class led by the teacher.

And my personal opinion is that ateto has spent a lot of time programming and is a newbie, or is an intermediate that tries to pass off as a newbie to gain some sel-esteem. I know damn well that he projects himself as a good programmer for only programming for 2 months, so if he ever denys that he hasn't studied that much over those 2 months, he's obviously lying.

Badda-bing badda-boom, it proves you progress as fast as you want to.

Why do you think computer science in college is so hard? (not like I know, cause I'm a junior, but still)

It's because most people have only fiddled with programming, and jump into a college level "something" so fast that they get totally raped by the language like it's german.

In an instance for someone like me, who is a dedicated programmer for about 1.5 years, when I go to college in another year, I'll have over 2 and a half years of dedicated programming time/experience, so college will be a complete breeze.

But only if you're using Linux. X-Chat is shareware on Windows.

Talking

massive-war (despite his past bastardry :-) ) gave some good advice. you did a good job man, be proud of it. and he might be right about the college thing. i went onto my uni's website and looked at practice tests for some basic CS classes and i could get 100% on all of them. and i've been doing this less than a year. (not counting the gwBASIC i did when i was like 10). good luck man.

You should write your own IRC client, rfc 1459 will help.
