I adore text-based RPGs, for the same reason I prefer books to movies. The book I'm currently reading, Atlas Shrugged, could never be converted to movie form and have the same impact, because there are things can be conveyed in words so much better than pictures. "A picture is worth a thousand words?" That's a complete lie. Massive-war, if you were to create a text-based RPG, it would help you a lot with your game in progress. Creating a 3D game shouldn't be done until you've at least made a complete 2D game first.

My first game system was my DOS computer. Next came my NES, so I grew up with all kinds of cool shit.

ATARI here

Behind any good graphical game, is surely a text-based prototype.

Damn right. Especially if the game in question has a half-decent storyline.

Text based games are nice.
Every now and then I pull out my old 486 and play some ancient 2d games with text commands But another reason I play text-based games is that I can't afford PC games or an Xbox or playstation

massive-war: could you please compress what you say into ONE post instead of posting three in a row? And everyone has to crawl before they can walk. You said you wouldn't make a text based game even if you learnt alot from it...but I bet your first program was text based and simply printed two words on the screen...?

I HAD and atari 2600... it kinda stopped working a couple years ago, so I disected it.
HAD a commodore64 for about a year or so I think back in 98.... that stopped working all of a sudden as well.
Had a NES, and a SNES, they stopped working also.

Those are the things that the other people in this house were able to touch...

MY PS1 and PS2 nobody touches, they still work prefectly

Would anyone here be interested in a Role-Playing Message Board? With a battling system and shit...
