Weekend Challenge

I had an idea that I thought would be great for this forum. On another forum that I often visit, they have competition each weekend. At the start of the weekend the challenge is announced. Then everyone has till Monday to submit his or her best program. All the programs are posted online for people to download and try. After trying a program the user gives the program a score of how well it met the challenge. The winner of the challenge then picks the challenge for the next weekend.

This would be a great way to see how everyone approaches the same problem. I know that I could learn a lot from it, just from watching others.

Problems I could fore see. File size eating up too much bandwidth. Someone might create a virus, which would be really lame.

Just a thought

I like it. Someone did a Python one, but it failed... perhaps we should do one for any language?

definitely sounds like a fun idea, the only problem we might have is Linux vs. Windows but I'm sure with a little thinking that can be solved.

yeah, and these challenges are usually more algorithmic then anything else, i dont think portability would be much of a problem

Shall we say no GUI-based apps? That'll stop portability from being a problem.

So, what shall the first challenge be??
Though I will not likely participate (lack of skill) I would be very interested in learning from the approaches other people chose...

I think it is a good ideia....but it would be better if it were organized by ranks...just like noob rank and others above....What do you say?
