Book about general progamming concepts.

Hi i was wonder if anyone knew of a good general programming book. All the books i see in the stores are on specific languages and i want to learn some things that apply to several languages. I'll give you some examples. From reading about C++ i know it is a strong typed language and reading about python i read it is a dynamically typed language. I'd like a book that would cover stuff like this like the types and their differences. Also from reading about C and C++ i know that C is a procedural language and C++ is object orientated. I presume their might be other types of languages but i won't know that until i try learning a language that is neither procedural or object orientated. Some times i'll read about this and that feature of a language but i don't understand the features so it does me little good and wanted to know if there was a book that would help me with that. thanks for any reply in advance.

Sams Teach Yourself Beginning Programming in 24 Hours comes to mind.
