networking question
i use my laptop on two different networks. one is dhcp enabled, one is not.
every time i change to network A, i have to go into network connections and manually set my ip address, subnet, etc and turn off dhcp. conversely, every time i change to network B, i have to go into network connections and erase the ip address, subnet, etc and turn on dhcp. is there a way i can use two batch files to toggle the settings according to which network i'm on? it would save me a lot of work and frustration. thanks |

Suggest to Network A that they have a DHCP server.

yeah i'm trying to switch to linux but haven't used it enough to feel comfortable with it as my primary OS, but don't have enough disk space to run two OSes. so i was looking for a quick fix for windows.
i'll definitely keep that ifupd thing in mind for when i do make the switch, thanks. |

You could set the alternate configuration of the TCP/IP provider to the manual (non-DHCP) settings: under windows, on the TCP/IP properties, turn on DHCP requesting and then specify the fallback settings on the "alternate configuration" tab : http://support.microsoft.com/default...1&PA=1&SD=HSCH
