You can't setup a MySQL server on your comp. Usually you buy MySQL servers at circuit city, thats where i usually get mine from anyway. Some people say staples carries some good ones as well... look around online and shop for good prices if you really need one. They usually run around $500.

Unless I'm really confused right now, what are you talking about? I hope you were joking lol(Or I am not seeing something)

You can download MySQL from http://www.mysql.com and it has a nice GUI Install no icky file move and editing stuff.

Install it and if your running PHP 4 you good to go. If your running PHP 5 make sure the proper extensions are loaded to connect to MySQL

Well, according to United States/European Union Microsoft Protection Trade Agreement 423-a15, all creation, sale, distribution, or use of Free/Libre Open Source Software that competes directly with Microsoft software is illegal. You actually have to buy SQL Server at best buy.

What you just said was contradictory.

Unless you are referring to MS SQL server, but you can download MS SQL server for free from Microsofts website.

(I'm trying to prevent myself from lashing out and make myself look like a fool but this entire topic is confusing me lol)

Downloading it form mysql.com is really easy, and the set-up is quick. Personally though I downloaded easyphp and it auto configures; however, is managed completely different, which is ok once you get the hang of it.

I got tired of downloading and reconfiguring mysql every time I formatted y computers, so easy php is cool to cause it also auto sets up apache also.

This text is taken from MySQL.com

"The MySQL database server is the world's most popular open source database. Over six million installations use MySQL to power high-volume Web sites and other critical business systems — including industry-leaders like The Associated Press, Yahoo, NASA, Sabre Holdings and Suzuki."

as some had said and for the benefit of those who disagree... MySQL is a open source database server that use SQL (Structured Query Language). Being open source makes it FREE. You dont have to buy it, and is not illegal to install it from the web. Trully there are other Database mannagers that use SQL an are not free, but MySQL is free.

lol... to answer the initial question.... download mysql from www.mysql.com and let us know when / if you have trouble during the installation. I currently run it on a Fedora Core 3 box if you need assistance with that or Windows.
