i looked at their website (http://www.icsharpcode.net/OpenSource/SD/) and it looks too good to be true. it's really a fully-functional VB.NET compiler?

It's not amazing, but it works well enough. I still prefer the Microsoft IDE.

You could always try Gambas - cool and getting there but still a lot of work to be done - kinda like VB 4 for KDE. I'm still confused by the Blue Shrimp thing - even more useless than Clippit, all it seems to do is smack its forehead when you get a Compile Error!
It has good database support, and the basic language is more structured than VB, but a way to go yet.

There may be some open-source compilers for VB.net, but your best bet would be just to buy it to save you all this time and trouble...I do know of some sites who offer a 30-day trial to like VB6 and VB.NET but they might be considered like "warez" sites and I'm pretty sure posting sites like that is against forum rules?

Sharp Develop is useful and gets the job done and its FREE. I use it as well as the 2k+ Visual Studio .NET.
