linuxiso.org

is www.linuxiso.org a good site to download linux from?
when i click on one of the mirrors a window comes up asking me to either "open with" or "save to disk"
the open with opens it up with my cd burner
if i was to burn it to a cd, should i use a cd-r, or can i use a cd-rw?

Save it to disk, and burn it to a CD-RW. That way, when a new version comes out, you can wipe it and write the new version onto it.

Looks like a good place to me. I'm not sure about the CD-r/CD-RW question that you had, but remember, you need to burn it as an image. I screwed that up a couple of times when I first got Linux, so just thought I'd give you a heads-up on that.

i just wanted to add something else on:
i have created a linux partition using partition magic 8.0
it is a primary partition but is not set active yet cause i dont have the linux os burned onto a cd yet
but when i have the cd what should i do?
steps:
step 1:set the partition active
step 2:reboot
step 3?:boot from the cd?
when you set the second primary partition active your first os wont load until linux is installed on the second partition, am i right?
i just need help setting up a dual boot if anyone can help me with that

linuxiso.org has a few tutorials on that subject.

http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/howtoburn.html

check that out and then read one that applies to your software. That should get you going witht eh cd thing :-)

your steps sound ok to me. if you want to dual boot, make sure that windows is already installed on one drive (or partition) before you put linux on there....it'll go alot smoother if you do it that way....cause windows will over right the MBR and then you'll have to deal with the night mare of a windows based boot loader. That's my only tip, just make sure linux goes on the drive second. grub and lilo are very easy to understand, and you should have a problem understanding the docs to get your comp to dual boot. Some distros (like slackware) detect your windows drive and will help you set it up.

is there a website that has a steb by step process on how to dual boot
because i was using partition magic and a created another active primary partition and i "wasn't" able to install linux cause the linux boot disk wouldnt boot
so i had to reinstall windows all over and it cleared all my information
so im just going to purchase a bootable linux cd somewhere online so this mistake dont happen again

all because i didnt burn the cd correctly
