Interfacing with a Keyboard

I'm working on a keyboard reader project for the PIC platform. I'll be using an AT/PS2 style keyboard to give instructions to some sort of robot.

Anyway, I did a lot of searching to find pin-outs and such, and found what i thought was decent info. Here's my problem:

Even though I have hooked up 5 volts supply voltage and ground, I'm not getting any signal at all from the keyboard. Shouldn't I be able to at least get a blip on my o-scope from the clock out and data out when i press a character, or am i missing something?

Maybe you should ask on a computer engineering forum? You might get a better response there, i'm willing to put money on it that there aren't many people here who can help you.

Simply do a search on google for Keyboard Interfacing. You'll find everything you need
there

After checking around I believe you may have an incorrect pinout. I went to 3 different sites and got 3 different pinouts for the AT/PS2.

Arent you using something similar to the intel 8042 keyboard controller to read
your keys?

You're not describing a assembly problem but more of a electronics problem.

I can help you when you know your hardware is working

nah, i'm not using an 8042. i just wanted to make an input device which will allow me to use an old keyboard to program and control a bot. i'm using a pic16f629 to control serial input.

i think i might be better off posting my question to the piclist, but i thought i'd try here, just in case. for me, the coding is always the easy part. the circuitry is always the problem.
