running linux
i have knoppix 3.7 on a cd that i can boot when i turn the computer on
i was wondering if i can take the files from the cd and copy them to my hard drive then have it so when the computer turns on it askes you which would i like to run: windows xp or linux if its posible how would i do it? |

I'm sure it's possible, but it's probably not as easy as installing a different distribution, such as Gentoo, Debian, Fedora Core 3, or (for K and Piz) Slackware.

you can install knoppix on your harddrive as long as you have a free partition large enough for it. I think thats what you are asking.

the other partition would have to be an active primary partition right?

Doesn't have to be active, but it should be primary.

Knoppix is mostly designed to be used as a live CD, so why don't you try one of the other linux distrobutions for your dual-boot?
For someone not very expirianced with linux and dual-booting, i'd recommend Mandrake, it makes setting up the dual-boot really easy, and its easier to get everything running under mandrake then, say, slackware. |
