Help with finding windows programming books
Hello everyone
![]() Does anyone any good programming books for Windows. I`m looking for NON-Mfc win32api programming books and I have trouble finding any since most of them are for MFC. I already read Programming Windows 5th Edition by Charles Petzold but the last 6-7 chapters are hard to understand so I`m looking for something else. A search on the net made me think that this is the only windows programming book available :O So can anyone help me out? |

Best Win32 API Tutorial
If you do not understand that, than you probably need to go back and learn the basics first.

I'm not a fan of that tutorial. It shows you what to do, but it doesn't tell you why you need to do it.

Anyways, once you get into subjects such as Windows Programming and higher, books usually aren't worth your money to waste, because the tutorials will say the same thing. When you are a beginning books are nice, but win32 is a much more delicate subject that tutorials will be able to cover just as good as a book. Here are quite a few tutorials, since my last post was a bit biased. theForger's Win32 API Tutorial FoosYerDoos Sunlight FunctionX Reliable Software Catch22 Productions from the ground up Fallout Software

This is the book I am using to learn the Windows API:
"Programming Windows, Fifth Edition" Absolutely outstanding so far. Very detailed, very organized and chalk-full of information (Way over 1,000 pages). QUOTE: -Anyways, once you get into subjects such as Windows Programming and higher, books usually aren't worth your money to waste- Oh, I utterly disagree. I am a huge fan of books, whether it is learning new subjects regarding programming or picking a book labeling new research done in the field of Nuclear Medicine. It gives me time to get away from the computer and inform me on cold, hard information, versus me spending hours on getting some home-made tutorial, which was published online, to work for me. I could go on of course, but this is just me--biased obviously. -Mike |

I prefer books as well, really. There's just something not right about reading long passages on a computer screen.

Ink however, is still too damn expensive for that. And I buy books because I like the covers, too :p
