another question i just thought of is, what else would i need to make an online game, but not one that runs in a browser, im planning on finally making a downloadable game, but what else would i need like directx or or whatever.

Just start with C++. Programming is very time consuming depending on how efficient you are and your debugging skills. Its not something you'll be able to learn and master in a day. Patience is a virtue.

If you're going to make a networked game, learn C++ and DirectX. DX comes with libraries specifically designed for online gaming.
