8086 was just an old processor. The modern Intel pentiums are all descndents of the 8086.

A take home exam question indeed... 8086 statements are plastered all over intro to assembly programming books. lol google -> define: microcontroller.

8086 is a microprocessor instruction set. Every microprocessor takes some form of assembly instructions to make it work, depending on the processor the assembly instruction set also differs... one such example would be a RISC processor, which uses the RISC instruction set (making use of some 32 registers, or something like that).

And than there is the 8086 microcontroller and instruction set, which describes the very basic instruction set for the x86 processor family... the instruction set has been greatly improved upon in the last several of years.

Smile ahhhhhhhh...the old days....

8086 was what i had in high school to write papers with. we had the word processor "electric desk" which was about on the level of vi. i also had "where in europe is carmen sandiego" as a computer game. and of course...gwBASIC. then of course i cut my teeth on DOS with installing games like "DOOM" and the like from 3.5" floppies. actually that was on the new computer...the 8086 only had a 5.25" drive. these kids today that start with "Halo" as a point of reference have no idea. but i still think DOOM and DOOM2 rocks ass...just like old farts think records are better than CD's.

Heheh. I had Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. I used to play that game quite a bit when I was younger.

I agree.

Now you're going too far. CD's are way better than records.

Amen to that. Doom 2 was so much better than Doom 3, and records are still the best quality you can get. I'm also a huge fan of other old games: Commander Keen, Prince of Persia... the list goes on. I need to break out the NES again...

records give you more of a feel of the music, or so i think, but cd's are better cause its harder to rip an LP to a MP3.

Old games hmmm, Dukenukem 3d many a day of fun with that one.
