Book price

I am interested in buying the book "Introduction to Algorithms" by Cormen, Leiserson, Rivest and Stein. I found it in two different places on Amazon.com:

Introduction to Algorithms ($58.90)
Introduction to Algorithms ($111.00)

Aside from the publisher and a slight difference in the number of pages, I can't see any difference. Am I missing something?

Re: Book price

the one with more pages is the second edition. I assume the 2 ed. has revisions and additional info to fill in the gaps in the first ed.

Re: Book price

Two reasons I can think of:
1: either coming from two different warehouses and one is more expensive to transport from (doubt it but it does happen).
2: Or the publisher released two editions of the book because they printed too many or too few pages. Ever looked in the back of your books and seen blank pages. This happens in the binding process to add a bit more stability to the book or when they have a set amount of pages to print on for the booklets (the groups of pages folded and stitched up) (Look on the bottom of your book, you will see the booklets).
Some publishers count these pages.
The price range is weird though, they could havemade a mistake.

You sure the more dearer on doesn't come with any goodies? (Software, e-rescources etc.)

Re: Book price

Found out why! Look at the publishers on each book!
One is The MIT Press; 2nd edition (September 1, 2001) and the other is McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math; 2nd edition (December 16, 2003).

MIT could be using a different font or something. I do that with my essays, a bigger font has made a two page essay to a 5 page essay!

Re: Book price

Interesting. It seems almost unethical for Amazon to sell the more expensive version since the content is virtually identical. They even share the same user reviews.

Re: Book price

Yeah, I know. I have a book Compilers: Principles, Techniques & tools International edition. Has the exact same things in but international and it was 10 dollars dearer than if I got the standard edition. I looked at the book from the Library at Uni thinking there was a difference but found (except for the disclaimer at the front and a few addons with the preface) no difference in content!
Publishers are so confusing with all this (stupid consumer law !)
