Using java to input into a webpage

I need to write a small program that will open a website, type in some information, and click the submit button. I can explain more later, but this is where I need to start. I have some java experience and think it can be done, maybe I'm wrong and need VB or something. Anyone have any ideas? If someone knew an example somewhere, or something i could research to learn how to do this it would be helpful. I've looked in 2 of my java books but dont see anything like this. I'll keep searching!

thanks,

JD

i'd suggest using Php, the syntax is similar to the java syntax, but there are good documentation on www.php.net. If you don't have access to a PHP enabled server, then you could use JavaScript. Javascript however is different than Java, but not hard to learn at all, let us know if you have specific problem you need to resolve.

i would suggest PHP as well since you are just starting out, with java you have to go into jsp's and then servlets down the line, either way its essentially the same.

well this is my issue....

someone stole my yahoo password and changed my password so i cant get back in. If i go to fill out the "i forgot my password" thing, it asks for my birthday, zip code, country, and login name. I put that information in, and then it says its not matching up with that login, so something must have been changed. I logged in with another yahoo account, and dont see a place to change birthday or country. This means he must have also changed my zip code. So i want to make a program to input the info, and have a loop for zip codes starting at 00000 up to 99999. Then one of those numbers should be correct, and then when u click submit...instead of getting a "information mismatch", it goes to another page asking for my father's middle name. Once i put his middle name in, it should give me a new password.

i assume this guy thinks he can find information about my banking in my yahoo account, but i dont have any in there. I'm sure he just looked around for that and now he'll never use it again. I've warned some friends that they may receive false emails. The only person I cant warn is John Mayer. Since we havent talked in a while and i dont have a number to call him by, i just hope this guy doesnt start harrassing him.

well...it looks like i may be going to borders to buy a book on php

and as far as having a php enabled server....i am not quite sure how php works. It sounds like it runs on a web browser, like html. So i would need to make the page, upload it to a webserver that makes it pretty and usable. In that case, i did host a webserver here at my house for a while, but dont any longer. Maybe i can find a free webhosting place that has php ability.

thanks guys

I suggest you don't do that - Yahoo probably has protection against brute-forcing that may include logging your IP and using it in court against you. I would suggest contacting the Yahoo support team directly.

good point...however I cant find an email address for yahoo support. i hate that! haha.

well i doubt i'll even be able to write it soon, cause i dont know anything about php. I just installed some neat package of apache, mysql, and php that i found and now i have ability to develop here. if i do get close, i may run it from somewhere else so they cant trace me, lol. i dunno, i'll keep looking for a yahoo support email.
