C++ or C is definitely the best to start with. As metioned before there are plenty of resources out there both in books and on the web. Best thing to do is a google search.

I wouldn't necessarily say Java has "poor" speed, ZenMasterJG. Sounds more like an argument from the late nineties than something you would argue today. Java's performance has increased dramatically over the past few years. It should be fairly adequate if you're not trying to code your own Photoshop, 3D game, or operating system or whatever. Java would be a good starting point for you ashcaw. It's similar to C++ in a lot of respects, and you don't have to deal with the low level stuff (which you might considered a "con" depending on how you look at it
). Anyway, welcome to the boards.

Go with Visual Basic, that way once you learn everything about it, you will soon find out its a waste of time and you teacher agrees!!!!!!
I hate stupid languages and stupid schoolboard people, she wanted to drop VB as a first language and do something like Java instead but no....... Then the best part is you find out how much VB costs and then you realize you better make every program you could ever think of while your in class because no way you could ever save up 200 for VB or the 600 for all the .net things because in a simple world you would learn them all before you get out of High School!! Agh!!!!!! sorry, jsut so frustrated. Last edited by Skinner; Mar 4th, 2005 at 5:14 PM. |
