Webhosting Resellers

My Own Webhosting Service

I was on the look-out for a webhost that will provide me around 300-500 gigabytes of bandwidth because I intend to stream audio and video files aswell as offer them for download to my website visitors.
Anyway, tonight I was thinking that maybe I should seriously think about getting into reselling webhosting because that way I can not only raise my website running costs each month but also make some good profits on the side.
You see, I am not working at the moment and I thought that if I can some-how start a hosting business from home and earn atleast $800/month then that would be enough for me to make a living for the time being.
Right now, I am not thinking of purchasing my own server nor acquire my own high speed internet connection. I think it’s best to sign-up to a popular reseller program and then create webhosting packages for resale purposes.
So, does anyone know of a popular reseller program out there that has been tried, tested, reviewed and proven to be to satisfaction ?
Please list the ones you recommend by ranking the best ones starting from the top going down to least best aswell as provide details why you recommend these.
Also, don’t forget to warn me of those that are worth avoiding by giving reasons why I should avoid them.
I would also like advice on :

1. pros and cons on re-selling hosting
2. what catches (pitfalls) I should look-out for when purchasing hosting for reselling purpose
3. what pitfalls I should look-out for when reselling webhosting to my customers
4. how much resources and what features I should make sure to get from my seller to resell to my buyers
5. what packages (how much webspaces and bandwidths) I should offer for sale at what prices
6. how I can influence you to buy hosting from me so you forget your existing hosts.

Before giving me any advice from your experiences check this website out thoroughly as you might learn some-thing new and then come-up with good advice, tips, suggestions, feed-backs for me :

I am thinking of reselling Unix/Linux hosting.

Well, I am using
http://www.resellershosting.net/linuxhosting.htm

I had an account at one point with was http://www.hostony.com

I had bought the first one first, and then decided to move to hostony, simply because they offered the same as what I was getting at ressellerhoting.org, for a smaller fee.

Boy was I wrong. the support at resellerhosting, wich is owned by techark, is completely awesome. I have had a few questions and a few snags when I first started out, but they really helped me. All of their support is through email, but they are pretty quick, usually back to you within a few hours.

Let me tell you about my aweful experience with hostony. At the very beginning, they set my account up wrong, with the wrong domain name, wrong user account information, and then sent me someonelses account information by mistake.

I finally had them fix that. Then, about a week later, I still couldn't access my site through their urls, and had to use the ips still. They kept telling me that the dns has to take time to resolve. Ok, I have done this before, it should only take up to 72 hours. About 5 minutes after I went back and switched everything back to my techark account, I was able to access the urls hosted at techark. So, I knew that it was a problem with hostony.

Some things that you might want to note here.
1.) you will probably not be able to have SSH on your account.
2.) you will have to provide your own site and your own billing methods.
3.) you will not be able to access mysql databases from outside of their servers, meaning, cross domain databasing is not allowed.

those three, seem to be general rules of thumb for most reselling companies, but, if you find one that is similar to techark, but allows SSH, let me know, because I would love to be able to offer that to my clients.

You can, however get SSH and Cross domain mysql use, if you go with a dedicated server situation, but, I wouldn't spend the money on that yet. Not untill your business grows some.

I hope this information is helpfull to you.
Mike

Or you could buy hosting from me at http://www.crd-hosting.com. If you are really interested in reseller hosting service you can always purchase a dedicated, or virtual-dedicated server from me, just ask for prices (dedicated service are not yet listed on my website)

Please don't resurrect an old thread that is marginally acceptable in this forum. As for Kurifu, he is in violation of the rules for pumping his sites in his signature.

Linking to your own website - If you are a) replying to someones question, and b) there is a SPECIFIC page on your website that contains the answer to their question you MAY provide a link to that page. Please note, if you have only just signed up and you seek out multiple old threads to post in soley for the purposes of linking to your own site within the boundaries of sections a & b of this rule, it will be treated as spam - so dont waste you time - go and spam somewhere else instead.
I have mentioned this to Kurifu previously. If the commercial links don't go away, I will take it up with Kyle.
