What version of Visual Studio should I get?

I just bought a new laptop after graduation. Not really sure on what version of VS to get. The job I landed after school uses VS 2003, but all of their sites are in classic asp. I was thinking about getting 2005 because thats what I used in school. I have also thought about getting the VS 2008, but not sure.

I just want to learn more about VS on my own and keep learning. Most of it will be web-based stuff, but I would like to dive in deep with vb.net and others.

Thanks ahead for the advice.

Classic asp ? as in asp ... asp ? - and VS 2008 ? weird . Anyhow, I don't see why you would consider 2005.

Just get 2008 - you won't regret it.

Re: What version of Visual Studio should I get?

ive posted similar question bout this, the two hav esame features...and there are few additions changes in VS-2008. but VS2005 runs faster in VS2008. so u should consider the capacity of your laptop

VS2005 runs faster, but VS2008 has more features. Especially for web development and if you want to delve into Silverlight 2 development you need to have 2008. If you want to compare the two, you can download the Express versions (VS2005 | VS2008) - these have just the basic features, but you can get an idea of the differences for a specific product. There's also a 90-day trial for VS 2008 Pro (link here; if the download app doesn't work, there's a way to just download the ISO. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got it from )

If you have VS2005 - say goodbye to .net 3.5 .

On the other hand if you say classic asp - it won't really matter

Does anyone know where to get the .iso image file for Visual C# 2008 Express for offline installation?

Apparently there's just an "All inclusive" version :
