DDoS

how do i defend my network against DDoS attacks? i'm kinda confused how to. al i've seen is to just filter packets. but i dont know what that means.

Basically you need a piece of hardware that realizes what's going on and somehow only listens to honest traffic. Not especially easy to create said device.
