New Laptop/Desktop Replacement
I'm looking to get a power laptop, I've been holding off on getting a laptop cause they always seem to lack the power I so enjoy/need (Windows haha). So my question is if anyone has seen any good deals or can recommend a good powerful laptop for anywhere between $1,000 to $2,500.
Must have:
I'll mostly be using this laptop for Web App development, but like most of you I'm sure, I always have 100 different things going on while in my IDE. I'm not replacing my desktop, so I dont need everything (storage) I'm just working out of town and on job sites 4+ days a week and need some power I can take with me on the road. (Notice, I always have an office to setup in so the little 15 inch screens are not a favorite of mine, I will never have this laptop on my lap.) I was looking into the Dell XPS M2010.... Thanks again for all your opinions and advice. |

Re: New Laptop/Desktop Replacement
Look into Toshiba. They are great. A little heavy though when it comes to transporting.

Re: New Laptop/Desktop Replacement
I'd recommend a Thinkpad based on my great [thus far 3 month] experience, but I don't think they go above 15.4" (though the new ones do offer 1900x1200, but that must be tiny; mine's 1680x1050). That said, most brands will get you horror stories and hero stories alike, but AFAICT you generally get what you pay for (pay more, get more)... of course, buying the most expensive model isn't always the best choice.

Actually, ASUS are good, the laptop specs look jazzy as well.

Re: New Laptop/Desktop Replacement
This is one might machine you listed there. The price is not too steep and the display seems awesome.
Also core2 kicks ass! No use yet for quad cores, and their quad prices! Then again, I am a sucker for Nvidia. But I build computers part time and the price looks okay. Nice gaming machine, although I see it as a portable desktop as it may cause gangerine from the hip down if carried around the whole day. ![]()

Re: New Laptop/Desktop Replacement
I'd recommend looking at some local places that build computers to your specifications.
1) you'll get exactly what you want, not something 'close enough' or 'too much' 2) you'll get service 3) you won't get a bunch of crap loaded on the machine 4) you'll get actual operating system install disks rather than a stupid 'restore' disk 5) you can probably get your OS of choice. My place refuses to load Vista, and I thank him daily for that.
