Hey.
I've got this program I'm making, ehich I'd like to protect with a name and serial. I don't want the code to be a interaction between the name and serial. The user can put in any name he wants, the serial will work on an algorithm not connected to the name. The thing is, I don't know how to do that. I never tried doing this before, and I'm pretty much a beginner. I don't know where to start (of course I want the code in the command button which validates the serial).
After making an algoritm (which preferably will include letters and numbers), I'd also like to make a Keygen for my software, which will work with the same algorithm.
Can anybody help me with this? How do I do it?

... when the serial isnt connected to a name a user inputs, wouldn't that generate like two same serials for different names? of course it might never happen but it is possible because its not in any way connected to the name right? i hope i understood you correctly...

Securely, i would just release it strictly as a webserver download with an "interactive zip file" with a unique key for each download thats paid for. Then when somebody enters in the key to start the program, it tells the webserver to disable that key and nobody else can then use it...

But then it would strictly be relying on the security of the webserver. which might not be the surest of bets. I suggest you intergrate that and many other things to set iside a serial for users like hd serial numbers possibly a secured box with a server/client type app on it with dynamic removign of serials and changing possibly. The possibilites are endless you just gotta descide exactly hwo much security u want.
