Need help starting.

Hey, I am in first year university and next semester I have a class on java.

Heres the description of the course.

Course Description:
Object-oriented programming: syntactic constructs, structured algorithms and pseudo-languages, data abstraction, classification and inheritance, typing and polymorphism, editing, compiling, linking, testing and debugging. Design and implementation of complete applications including the user interface, emphasizing number systems, documentation, methodology, program, data types and control structures.

I am planning on getting a head start over the holiday break. To do this I would like to get a book. I found this book. Is this a good book to get started with? Do you have any other suggestions? Also The max I can spend is $75.

Thanks in advance.

I will see if I can find a used version of that book. However, It would be great if anyone can find me a good book at www.chapters.ca, since I am planning to visit the store tomorrow.

I suggest this book http://www.amazon.ca/Core-Java-TM-2-...dp/0131482025/ It is by Sun and full of detail on JAVA 5. Read the reviews to get a better idea on the quality of the book.

I love the Core Java book. It taught me so much stuff. I really enjoy Cay Horstmann's writing style.
