Well, here's the thing. Many of the things you do with any kind of programming requires you to be able to think a problem through. I'm making a GUI application, and I have had to use math just to position forms. Not complicated really, but you do have to think or you could just be putting down half-thoughts and wind up with a program that is really screwed. Also, math is a requirement for any programming degree you might go after. Even my associates degree require some pretty staunch math learning such as Trig and Calculus. If you want to get any where in the programming world, you'd best learn some math.

At the risk of sounding flip, you don't really need to know much of anything to use VB.

Joking aside, I agree with the above responses. You don't really need math beyond basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division for 'general purpose' programming (whatever the language). Depending on the task, however, you might need high-level math skills. For example, if you're coding a 3D modelling engine, you'll definitely need knowledge of trigonometry and matrix math. An accounting software system, on the other hand, will require you to have knowledge of statistics and the like. It really depends on what you're trying to do.

It's kinda like asking if you need to have your headlights on to drive. In general, no- even at night, streetlights and other cars will probably give enough light to see the road- but if it's dark, it would be a good idea (not to mention avoid you getting a ticket).

Re: math

I could totally see DaWei trying to write someone a ticket for some bad programming with math. Yes you will need math. May be as simple as seeing how many buttons you've added to a program. Need one more so how many more do I add? If you don't get past "Hello World!" I wouldn't worry about math.
