I have been asked to create a program that scans for a virus,detects the virus and removes it,it also has to scan the boot sector.I am very new to programming so this is a big task for me especially that i cannot find anything of any use to me, i am a beginner of java and c++ could anybody tell me how to attempt this or provive some information to me.

Your request confuses me. The only reason I can think of for someone to ask for this is in a school environment, but no sane professor would assign a project like this without first going over the details in class. Scanning for a virus definition isn't terribly difficult, but it is somewhat tedious, and scanning the boot sector is usually done with inline assembly (at least, I'm not aware of any easy way to do it otherwise).
