DirectX defineteley takes more code to setup. You have to setup the device and all the other stuff. In OpenGL you pretty much just setup a window with GLUT and you are ready to go.

Is the XNA framework any where close to the same level as Ogre or Irrlicht? I didn't think it provided any high level interface just a managed DirectX interface.

Some people seem to be under the impression that the SDL is a 2D graphics engine of some description. I'd like to point out that it's not. To quote the site:
Quote:
Simple DirectMedia Layer is a cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide low level access to audio, keyboard, mouse, joystick, 3D hardware via OpenGL, and 2D video framebuffer.
It's essentially a cross-platform compatibility layer for I/O.

If you want to test out your games you will need a triple core CPU, just like the Xbox 360 has.

No you don't, once you have signed up for XNA creators club (you need it to play your games on the x360) you can cross compile and use your game on both your x360 and windows machine, you can create XNA games and play them on windows without XNA membership.

Hope I haven't misunderstood.

Thanks.
