i got 512 MB of RAM as my last birthday present...meaning my wife let me buy it.

worthless on an AMD athlon 3000XP+.

two things i will buy when i get a real job:

1: an xbox 360 with all the games i want

2: a multi-core processor computer

oh yeah, go to rentacoder.com for this, you'll probably have a better base. we're all either students or disgruntled assholes who will mock you in their free time. this is basically the flame forum.

I recently upgraded my pc from 1gb of RAM to an incredible 2gb... it kicks some serious ass now... i wish i could afford to upgrade it to 4gb but i'm a college student so i have no more money

There is some serious misunderstanding about the effects of RAM quantity on speed. An increase from 1G to 2G would hardly be noticed for most applications. You must be doing some seriously funny stuff.

The game X3 Reunion would apparently display noticeable improvement in performance with an upgrade for 1gb to 2gb ram, though I played it quite happily on 1gb.

Would like to go to 2gb myself but can't justify the move just yet. Maybe it would allow you to setup a ram drive or stuff but it's hardly a necessity.

I've wondered for many, many years why anyone would want a ram drive. It treats the memory as a faster drive, sure, but as a much slower repository for data than RAM, itself. The opposite treatment, a drive as virtual memory, is much more useful. The second gig, of course, relieves you of the need for some virtual memory.

I understand where you're coming from, as I've seen the effects of loading high-res scenery in Fsim, but I stand by my post, and would even upgrade the word, "most", if I could think of an alternative that suited me.

yeah, like i said, on my processor an extra 512 MB of RAM results in nothing.
