Transfer apps from 1 pc to another
I know there are several ways of transfering files/data/email/settings from an older pc to a new pc, but aren't there some programs to transfer actual applications? I know of 1 tricky way to do this, but am looking for something easier.
Have any of you tried something to accomplish this? JD |

On a Windows machine, you'll probably have to mess with the registry, moving the files, and staying within your license agreement. The second is trivial, the first more complex and the last probably the most difficult.

That isn't correct, kruptof. He isn't talking about how to share applications from the get-go, but to transfer them afterwards. There is some reluctance on the part of software manufacturers to do this. They don't know whether or not you are going to move stuff to another system and dump the first one, or whether or not you are going to sell these freebie-to-expensive programs at their expense. There are a number of ways to accomplish the task. I, for one, am not going to publish them.

Why not just use the installer on the new computer?

However, this is for a guy at work. In the past he has deleted some stuff (I think from the device manager), and then put the hd into the new PC to let it recognize all the new hardware...and I've heard of doing this from several sources as well. However, he was asking if there was a better way of doing this...perhaps with some software. I'm sure he has a lot of stuff installed and doesnt want to waste time sitting in front of his PC installing 100 things. He is a pretty busy guy, and has better things to do. Like I said...I wouldnt mind doing that, but I was just looking for suggestions of other ways of doing it. ![]() JD |
