Project Idea: Startup Manager

For those bored programmers out there, why not make a startup manager, that list all the files in the registry and startup folder. And try and pull as much information about it as possible, such as its location, if its currently running, etc.
I'm currently working on one in Java, I'll post it when I finish.

Hey, that's actually not that bad of an idea. I've always had some random stupid shit in my registry that I need to get rid of. I've had to do some searching and stuff before finding what I needed. Especially for inexperienced computer users, it would make detecting and removing hazardous startup programs much easier. Good luck.

Doesn't msconfig do this already?

MSConfig is kind of hokey, but there are a lot of alternatives, Tuneup Utilities and others (even Spybot-Search and Destroy) that do this well, for those of you who need the tool now. None that I've seen finds ALL the places (as a matter of fact, not the meanest) where a startup program may be stashed.

I've found that sysinternals Autoruns does this task quite efficiently.

This project is on my to do list. I've been meaning to come up with an external registry editor, and some way of finding viruses in the registry easier. I've got some ideas, but haven't written it all down yet:p Msconfig ain't to bad, But I often find myself going into the registry to clear the values manually. Sometimes you just need a program to suit your needs and your needs only.
