Ahhhhh. I mistakenly presumed that since it was in the Project Ideas forum, you were pursuing it or soliciting information that realistically applied to judging its validity.

But your post about how he would go about doing it was interesting to read.

The cost of running my computer 24/7 for a month here in California is ~$4.66, varying slighty each month with the price per kWh.

Even with a savings of 1:10 on power, the cost of the device would make it impractical.

So much variance! How you guys are calculating the power consumption?

Either we have drastically different power rates here in California than Nova Scotia, or someones doing it wrong.

Estimating that my computer draws 80W...

80 W * (8760 hr / 1 yr) * (1 kW / 1000 W) = 700.8 kWh / 1 yr.

(700.8 kWh / 1 yr) * (1 yr / 12 months) = 58.4 kWh / 1 month.

(58.4 kWh / 1 month) * ($0.079800 / 1 kWh) = $4.66 / month.

The price per kWh ($0.079800) varies monthly...

You seem to have a very hard time staying focused; weren't you learning C++ and about 10 other languages... and now a hardware project. If you stick with one thing for more than 12 minutes you might actually accomplish something in your life.
