I don't disagree that they are in fact routers (I probably phrased things poorly). It's just that you were referring to the switching part of it (i.e. LAN). I typically don't use the WAN port on my routers if I can avoid it :o

We all phrase things poorly sometimes... When I had my router I lived with my aunt and unkle and my unkle wouldn't let me use port forwarding so I could host my game... I guess if you are able to use them right then they are good...

On another note, I was having great router fun last night when I was at my girlfriend's place. She's sitting there at the computer, listening to streaming audio from a local radio station's site, and on comes some annoying song (more annoying than usual, I mean; I'm not fond of most of her music). So here I am, sitting on the couch with my laptop, and I log into the router's configuration page, and release the IP address (the one from her ISP via cable modem). Suddenly, I don't have to listen to crappy music any longer. Task for next time I'm over: set her machine to get a static IP address from the router, and set up a filter to block port 80 traffic from/to her machine. Then I can toggle it on whenever I feel like being a bastard, and still have web access on my machine. ![]()
