oh common now, VB .NET is a great way for starters to learn object oriented concepts as well as handlers and whatnot, I know it really helped me.

Welcome to the club. I'd recommend C# over Visual Basic (.NET), but they're pretty similar to each other anyway. .NET is a great framework, and will help you learn how to program effectively, but don't base all of your coding around it - eventually, a new library will hit the streets, and if you don't have a grounding in multiple languages, you may get left behind.

C# and VB.net are the same except for syntax. That said, I highly, highly recommend C#.

Thanks to you all for an awesome welcome!
I've been doing a lot of reading lately, and gathering of opinions.
I started off reading up on html, and got a good feel on how that worked. I'm now reading/studying up on xhtml and css. You may ask why, but after reading up on stuff it was mentioned to start off with these first (good starting point for programming). Next, I was thinking Javascript and then on maybe to SQL. From there not sure yet, always had a dream to be able to develop games . Again, thanks for all the welcomes....

Everybody does :p Welcome to the forums Good choice to start out with web design. Start with something easy, and it shouldnt take you long to get good at html. Being able to design websites is a surprisingly valueable skill. From there pick whether you want to continue with web dev, or more to application dev. That's my advice. Have fun

Not exactly. They started off as almost the same language, but they've branched in different directions since. I'll root around and see if I can find that article on the differences between VB 8.0 and C# 2.0.

EDIT: found a similar one - clicky.
