Visual Basic is a great language, if used correctly. When coding with it, you have to realise that it's a very limited language, and is prone to bugs when it becomes complex. Try and keep it simple, don't overload it with complex graphics, 3d, networking, or anything that would be devastating to someone using it if it crashed before the file could be saved (IE a spreadsheet, word processor, or anything like that). I'm not saying that it's not possible, I'm just saying that it's not recommended.

Smile

Looks like a lot of opinions have been shared already, and some very good opinions I might add

Here's my 2 cents worth: It really depends on what your goals with programming are. I'd say learn it. Why not? It's out there, it's used a lot in businesses via MS Access 2007 and Excel 2007. I use it a lot at work for handling small scripts and such.

If you're going into software development as a career, obviously you're going to want to be well versed in as many computer languages as possible. I suppose if you're not pursuing programming professionally and you're trying to be as efficient with your time and money as possible, that would be a consideration for focusing on another language vs. VB, like c/c++, java or perl, etc.

Good luck, and have fun learning whatever you decide on!

Too bad business acumen and realistic viewpoints aren't handed out free at the game store or video arcade.

No, Zaracen, there's not a due date, nor is there a law requiring good sense. If you want to dig up old threads, why don't you dig up the ones suggesting that old threads be closed after ninety days or so, to prevent their reopening by inattentive or reading-impaired visitors.

I should probably do that...or I could just write "I will not post to old threads" a ba-zillion times, but that would just be spamming...doh, I can't win for loosing! lol.

I shall endeavor to be more attentive :o
