Naw, the IDE will handle the coffee; it's probably why he 'feels comfortable'. It even has support for his 52X mug holder.

I think the other guy had it right. You can't just create a .cpp file and compile it, you have to create a project. Until you create a project and .cpp/.c/.java you usually can't compile anything or build.

If I were picking a cross-platform C++ IDE I would stick with Code::Blocks... wait, the only one there is, is Code::Blocks (Linux and Windows with Mac support being worked on). After using both DevC++ and Code::Blocks I can say Code::Blocks is better. The project still hasn't reach 1.0 yet so documentation is sparse, but its straightforward enough to use the basic features and the forums are very helpful. You should also check out the wiki which has more documentation. It was created by one of the main developers of DevC++ and I believe don't think DevC++ is really being developed anymore.

Make sure to get a nightly build , not RC2. If you have any problems, just post on the forums I linked to above.

P.S.- I have not problems compiling and running my project from within Code::Blocks, although I have never tried a using the single file feature.
