Ruby or Python?

I've been looking at both Ruby and Python and they seem very similar to me. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point out some of the differences between the two languages. I would also like to know which is better suited to web development, and whether Ruby on Rails makes Ruby superior to Python in this regard. Thanks.
