the video game. Burden on our future?
 

I came across this because I know that a lot of children these days are playing video games instead of say, reading, doing homework and other educational activities, or even playing sports.

I believe that everyone under the age of 18 should not be allowed to play video games. For if your under 18 years old you do not fully know how detrimental to your future video games can be. I'm 18 and I just recently realized what a waste of time it is. Unfortunately those years can't be taken back. Moreover, it's still an addiction which cannot be controlled. The quote "one more hour" becomes an echo which has traveled through my mind for a long time.

I believe that Korea is already enforcing some kind of restriction on video games. I'll be back later today with the article.

Let kids play video games... suprisingly enough there are some benefits from this: hand-eye coordination, education (yes, its true some games are educational).

If a kid spends -all- of their time playing games instead of doing homework, etc... that is definitely a problem, its called bad parenting.

Parents, should make sure their child's time is evenly allocated on a well balanced life... not stuck behind the screen. Furthermore, if the violence in the game was an issue, parents should stop buying them as kids that are of influential ages cannot buy them theirselves.

We all know that if the kid wants to play a game, they will find a way. So in the parents' defense... they can't be everywhere all the time; however, they can at least instill values in their kids at an early age, that hopefully would make their children self motivated to pursue other activities, etc.

Who have you been talking to, apparently you have been brain washed or something? If you had fun playing video games then it's not a waste of time. Your post actually angers me.

Absolutely agree with parents making a child divide their time well balanced. One of the hardest things to do in life is finding a good balance. Giving values early in life is one of the best things a parent can do.

I sometimes play a game or two, I used to play more but I have grown wiser and manage my time better. Sometimes one needs to discover a wrong balance themselves.

Temper, temper...

A good violent 3rd person shooter is, occasionally, how I unwind at the day's end. It beats a 2nd job at the post office... :)

Where's the logic in that? I learned all my history from games.

I'm 16 now, been playing games since I was about 10. I remember this one hockey game for nintendo, was so fun, I played for hours with my brother. The game wasn't one of the more "realistic" ones, people would throw squids(squid?) on the skating rink when they got mad at the other team, or something, can't remember too well. Anyways, games don't exactly fascinate me as much anymore. I'm actually doing a lot for my real life, not computer related things, aside from coding. I will play Garry's mod for half life occasionally for 10 minutes, then I get bored.

This might only be me, but I probably won't even use my computer other than music, coding(if I'm still coding in 2 years), and school work.

Would that hockey game happen to be Mutant Leage hockey?

I played Mutant league football... absolutely addicted to that game smashing those skeletons.

Isn't it for the Detroit Redwings, that the fans would sometimes throw squids onto the ice? Anyways... I am 14 years old, and I disagree with this post. I play a LOT of video games, and I mean a lot. But, I am also athletic (I swim for 2 hours 4-5 times a week), and I am a straight A student. I enjoy video games, it's just a hobby.

As for Korea laying down laws against video games... I don't see that happening. When I think of Korea, I think of insane video gamers. When you play a game, the people who are often the best are the Koreans (StarCraft, Guild Wars etc...)

They even have StarCraft aired on Live TV over there! It's crazy! I just can't imagine them putting down strict laws against video gaming.
