Student Management System

Alright Everyone. I have an Idea based off of another program. The other Program is a Java based program that runs from the web. It is called eSIS and can be found at http://www.aalsolutions.com/index.php under Products. ESIS Basically Stands for Electronic Student Information System. I (am a stundent) and A bunch of Teachers in my district have renamed it to Electron Shitty Information System. The reason for this is that it is Java and the second is that about every 3rd week it crashes and no one can really do anything. My Idea is to Code it Using PHP and Languages that are multiplatform and to where it can run on (basically) any machine. Because the base foundation is going to be PHP it's going to be online but set up within private networks. I had the idea of possibly coding it in C (I would have to do some reading to know the coding of C) and then when we complied it, we would have to complie it for Windows, Linux, and Apple The program has to be able to have all student information in it meaning name, phone, address, current grades (meaning assignments in classes/end of the semister grades), past grades, a picture, current classes and past classes. My computer Science says that ESIS had about 50 programmers 4 years to build. I believe that to some degree. I say that we could knock this out in a year, with 4 programmers. If you would like to help me let me know. I'll have us build this directly on the web. Each person would have different parts, because this is going to be a big project. I'll have my website as the demo site when we get it running.
If you have ANY IDEAS on ANYTHING, please let me know I'd be happy to hear. Anything to make it better is always nice to hear. If you would be willing to help let me know. Know that As of right this second it is not going to be paid. If I can get the project up and running and we try it out at my school or at another school and they like it. I'd either build a business and sell it or I would find a business to help take that over, in the case that it'll work and catch on each person will be given a percentage. If 5 people help then each person will get 20%, everything will be equally done. If you would like more details let me know. Nothing is writen in stone and so things can change if you prove to me that your way is better then we can do it that way. I'm very easy going on this.
If you have any questions, let me know either by PM.
Thanks

I'm doing basically the exact same thing with the head of the computer department at my high school. Only we chose ASP .NET because I already knew PHP and it is supposed to be a 'class' for me.

We are building essentially the same thing with a few other things that are pretty school specific, but without the grade-tracking because we already have that through http://www.edline.net

The only real advice I have to tell you is that if you are going to store grades the program better be locked down pretty tight because someone will want to hack it.

this is pretty funny, because I'm building one of these also :)

Y'know, I was thinking of building one of these one day...

@ IR and Ooble. If you guys are doing pretty much the same thing why don't you team up with this guy. He sounds pretty legit. Who knows you might have something serious going.

just a suggestion

Since all of these people are working on it separately, wouldn't it be smarter for everyone to team up on it and get it done faster? This seems like something that might actually benifit the world instead of just a random project.

I might even be able to help with this, too. I'm learning PHP and I'm picking up on it pretty fast and I would like to get involved in something other than GFX design.

I always love to do GFX design - it is the best part :).

Well, I've been doing it for a while and I have more fun creating something interactive. So I guess I'm stuck with this stuff until I can afford an actionscript book.

I have a hard time learning from the internet. I usually have to get a book. I don't know why, but I just have to have a hard copy of what I'm reading. Besides, reading for a long time on a screen gives me a headache.
