Project ideas

A friend of mine is finishing up his masters degree in CIS and he needs to create a final project in order to graduate but he can't think of anything good.

Does anyone have some project ideas, possibly something with C# or ASP.NET?

maybe an online text-based game? check out www.mobstar.com, for example.

An online employee system, tracks hours worked, pay rates, employy info, etc. Interface ASP with MSSQL server or MySQL and go nuts with it.

Or take an existing hevy app written in PHP or PERL and port it into C#/ASP

He's doing Computer Science in the University of Michigan-Dearborn. There is a few threads about colleges in the US, here's a couple:

i thought cis was computer information systems...which is like a technical business degree...

but if he has to do something like that then i may be mistaken, or something may have gotten lost in the translation. i agree with whoever said DB. for info systems in a business environment a database is CRUCIAL. we had a "grad day" in CS class the other week and half of those guys do most of their work in some implementation of SQL. you can do anything projectwise. maybe tailor a database-centered application dealing with initiatives deemed important for prospective employers he's sent resumes to.

CIS is the departement, CS is computer science and IS is information systems. Two seperate degree, but it might differs from one university to another.
