Meeting Sept 29th

Quote:

(19:58:22) The topic for #cppwebdoc is: C++ Web Documentation meeting will commence at 8:00PM est tonight! (09/28/05)
(19:58:45) tempest1: hey everyone
(19:58:48) tempest1: welcome to the meeting
(19:58:49) tcl: hey hey
(19:59:16) tempest1: who all is active, and why did you decide to come?
(19:59:34) lostcauz: Heckler.
(19:59:52) tcl: Came because sounds interesting
(20:00:22) medamaybe: interested in the project
(20:00:50) tempest1: cool
(20:01:02) tempest1: well, my idea is to create an all purpose site for C++
(20:01:29) tempest1: references in the form of tutorials, libraries (like php.net), book reviews, forums... among other things
(20:01:47) tcl: so gerneral purpous site on the C++ language?
(20:02:00) tempest1: the way i plan on getting alot of it does is by letting the users submit parts of the C++ language they'd like to see on the site but that nobody else has done yet
(20:02:04) tempest1: exactly
(20:03:06) tempest1: what i'd like to know, from the people interested is where they would like to work on the site's development so i can get a document out to the participants as soon as possible as far as where i plan on this going and in how much time
(20:03:23) Narue [i=blah@c-69-180-23-104.hsd1.ga.comcast.net] entered the room.
(20:03:35) tcl: I could work on some logos in the GIMP
(20:03:37) tcl: images, buttons
(20:03:38) tempest1: i'll need tutorials, library references, good forum admins... etc.
(20:03:43) tempest1: cool, thanks tcl
(20:04:28) tempest1: there are a couple of other people like, omniboogle, uman, DaWei that are going to read the logs and will give me some feed back as well
(20:04:52) medamaybe: cool
(20:05:04) tempest1: anybody have any ideas or anything?
(20:05:25) tcl: do you have any ideas that will make it stand out compared to the rest of the gernal purpous programming sites?
(20:05:34) tcl: general*
(20:06:13) tempest1: well, the fact that this site will be maintained often and C++ only will make it a huge asset to anybody looking to understand a particluar function in C++, etc.
(20:06:38) tcl: plus the PFO community :D
(20:06:45) tcl: which is getting rather large
(20:06:46) tempest1: right now, the only thing on the web you can find as far as C++ documents are raw function declaratios scrapped from the header files
(20:06:59) tempest1: yes, of course
(20:07:25) tempest1: i plan on being able to do much better than other C++ references available
(20:07:56) tcl: yeah
(20:08:06) tempest1: there just isn't anything of notable caliber available right now
(20:08:23) tempest1: this will remain free, community based, and 100% non-profit
(20:08:24) tcl: I agree
(20:08:34) medamaybe: me too
(20:08:35) tempest1: so i'm not trying to make money on this
(20:08:50) tcl: not to mention the shear lack of c++ help for programmers just starting the language
(20:09:02) tempest1: yea
(20:09:09) tcl: all of the c++ tutorials I've ever scene assume previous know how of other languages
(20:09:14) tempest1: the other day i found the first post i made trying to understand a "hello world" program on the web
(20:09:22) tempest1: and all they told me was "read and understand the tutorials, idiot"
(20:10:50) medamaybe: yeah, that happens a lot these days
(20:11:01) tempest1: yea
(20:12:46) tempest1: i think this could be a great asset to the C++ community
(20:13:10) tcl: yeah
(20:13:14) medamaybe: yeah
(20:13:31) tempest1: questions or anything?
(20:13:59) medamaybe: who's gonna lead this thing?
(20:14:11) tempest1: me
(20:14:25) tempest1: maybe somebody else if someone steps up to the plate with the leadership ability
(20:15:35) medamaybe: ok, sounds good
(20:15:48) tempest1: i'm pretty much done
(20:15:56) tempest1: if i talk any more i'll be pitching the idea in circles
(20:16:10) medamaybe: we need some kind of list of everything that we need
(20:16:18) tempest1: yes we do
(20:16:20) medamaybe: like..what needs to be done
(20:16:33) tempest1: well, i planned on having more people here than i did
(20:16:41) tempest1: i was going to get a list of what everybody wanted to do
(20:16:47) tempest1: so i knoew how to create the list dividing the work among them
(20:16:51) tcl: have you decided on a language, php I assume?
(20:17:08) tempest1: for the web development, yes
(20:17:26) tempest1: i don't know anything else, plus PHP is the most popular so
(20:18:53) tcl: I know Ooble is a very able web developer, you might want to talk to him for layout ideas if you want some differnt designs
(20:19:07) tempest1 left the room (quit: Remote closed the connection).
(20:19:42) lostcauz: uh..
(20:19:45) medamaybe: PHP will do just fine in my opinion. I use PHP a lot.
(20:19:47) tempest1 [n=tempest@adsl-12-55-30.chs.bellsouth.net] entered the room.
(20:19:56) tempest1: can somebody do me a favor and post the logs?
(20:21:05) mode (+o tempest1 ) by ChanServ
(20:21:12) medamaybe: sure
(20:21:14) tempest1: i just shut down my client
(20:21:17) lostcauz: hosting?
(20:21:34) tempest1: dev hosting will probably be done on my computer
(20:21:43) tempest1: or somebody elses who is willing to donate to the project
(20:21:54) tempest1: after that i'll have to get professional hosting
(20:24:49) medamaybe: we'll have to figure out a way to make it easy for everyone to work together
(20:25:22) tcl: Here's an idea, once we get Element going (cough cough) we'll be able to use that for communications
(20:25:41) tempest1: that could be a plan
(20:25:56) tempest1: once element has a working client we'll do that
(20:26:13) tcl: Use one PFo project to sponsor another
(20:26:33) medamaybe: what exactly does element do?
(20:27:34) tempest1: it'll be an IM client
(20:27:36) tempest1: whenever it gets going
(20:28:48) medamaybe: hm..do we really need element for communications? it's not like we don't have any other ways of communicating, right?
(20:29:02) tcl: lol, it was only wishful thinking and half sarcasm
(20:29:16) tcl: I'm sure IRC will suffice
(20:29:33) medamaybe: yeah :)
(20:31:58) medamaybe: so, anything else?
(20:32:14) tempest1: nothing that comes to mind
(20:32:27) tempest1: next week i'll schedule a meeting that'll start the project
(20:32:55) medamaybe: ok
(20:32:58) tempest1: tcl, is there another element meeting next week at 6?
(20:33:08) medamaybe: hopefully we'll have more people here next week
(20:33:19) tempest1: yea
(20:36:32) tcl: tempest umm, probably
(20:36:42) tcl: I don't see why there shouldn't be
(20:37:01) tcl: Once I get ahold of IR, I believe he has some white papers on the project
(20:37:07) tcl: I'd like to go over them with the team
(20:37:26) tempest1: ok, i didn't know if there was a weekly meeting schedule for element or not
(20:37:33) tempest1: i'll schedule mine for another day :)
(20:38:14) tcl: no no, don't scedual around me, I'll scdual around you
(20:39:18) tempest1: lol
