NEW AND IMPROVED: Which was better? (now with poll and also featuring atari!)
How I love general discussion forums! :D
Anyway, this is more for the old-schoolish guys in the house and is more for the 1985-1995 (so it ain't that much old school I suppose. Anyway, which was the best gaming platform from the old days? Select one from the poll and then comment your sellection. Let's make this a nostalgic thread! Back from the days where barely had 2D (remember text-games...:p). Anyway, for those who need a little reminder (or for those who just don't know any of these systems), I supply a little link-tihingy here! \o/ Hurrah! NES (1983) Amiga 1000 (1985) 128k ZX Spectrum (1985) Atari 65/130XE (1985) Sega Master System (1986) Sega Mega Drive (1989) Comodore 64 (1990) And that's it! :p I myself first got the spectrum (128k +2 version) later I had a NES then a Master System. After that I only got PCs 'till I got myself a PSX! \o/ The best was the spectrum, though I have many many fond memories of playing contra and super mario brothers when I was a kid. I could go on for ages, but this post is already to long... :p |
Where do you get your dates? The Commodore 64 is an early-80's machine. It had the best available graphics for the time.
My first "game console" was a Fairchild with Pong and something like Duck Hunt on it. The resolution was something like 40 (huge) pixels across on the TV screen. My second was a Mattelivision; it taught me to play backgammon. It also had an Asteroids-like game and Space Invaders on it. My first game and still a favorite is the original Adventure, a textual interface. I have it on my machine to this day. Few of the gamer "whiz kids" that bop through here can get anywhere with it. No imagination. |
I love my NES. Beats the pants off my PS2 any day.

yep good ol fashion "super mario bros." or "tetris" oh man T3TR15 is the ShiZniT son and other good ones like mega man / P.O.W. / that one game with the cars
more mario, godzilla , mega man 2, 3, 2's the best |
I thought the Atari predated NES, but I could be wrong... anyhow.. I picket Atari of course :)
|
Looky looky! 1337 has arrove!
Atari most definitely predated NES; at least in the USA market. |
was fixing to say... I was like knee high when I was playing atari... I remember block graphics and waiting for pixels to populate the screen. lol
|
well... I never owned an atari so I actually don't know that much about it... all the date that I got were from that site... maybe they're refering to a diferent model? I dunno...
In any case I bet the spectrum's loading time beats any downside any other platform could have... I'm just sad I didn't take that chance to learn basic. But then again... I could barely read for that matter... lol |
Defiantly NES!

Ahhhhhhhhh, the Atari shown at that link is their shot at a PC. I only ever used the "game console", which was made as cheaply as one could make anything without resorting to recycled cardboard, baling wire, and chewing gum!
EDIT: This is the Atari I was familiar with, introduced in 1977. Plug in a game cartridge and a couple joysticks and go. |
