Good morning, afternoon and evening to all those that read this thread across the globe, i recently started a computer course at college around september and ive taken a verly large interest in Visual Basic, but the thing is, i want to be able to do more, as in i want to learn how to create my own OS, ive asked my teacher and he laughed and me saying "I can't be serious", ive looked around the net for help, guides and information, and so far from what i have read, C or C++(can't remeber which) and perl are the reconmended programs to create an OS, im not sure if this is true, i would like to know which is the best program to use and where i can get detailed information on how to program in that language. And thank you for your time.

C/C++ to code an OS... drop the Visual Basic approach if you ever want to finish it.

There are several tutorials on this forum and the net is scattered with some how-tos.... when in doubt, you could always look at the linux code (written in C)... for ideas on how to start.

you could write an OS more easily with a crayon and toilet paper than using perl or VB. if you really want to do this then go with C++. however, in the meantime i suggest aiming a little lower than that. learning a language is never a waste of time and i hope that you get the best from your course. programming fundamentals are the same language to language. if you study hard then you will easily apply the concepts learned from your into course to much more advanced topics. good luck.
