Need to send/receive w/serial port
 

I'm posting this in the Perl group because it's where I'm most comfortable but I am open to any solution for this project.

I would like to be able to send simple commands from my web site to the serial port of the web server (located at home). The port will be connected to a electriclar device that allows for some homegrown home automation (not X10).

i was looking into this myself the other day for a robotics project.

look online for a robot named "grasp." there are detailed tips on how to implement serial protocols through perl-based CGI. here is a link.
