How much harder is Java then Visual Basic 6?
Hi all, i would like to know in general how much harder Java is compared to Vb?
I also brought this starter book for me to learn, do you think it is any good? Please click the link Click here Thanks Jamie :) |
Java isn't very difficult, you just have to get into the Java-headspace :)
I have no experiance whatsoever with VB (actually, i have avoided it like the plague) but you'll probably find Java much easier then say, C or C++. I'm not a fan of the "for Dummies" books, in general they seem like they were written BY dummies rather then for them. Haven't read or even seen the Java one though, so I wont pass (too much) judgement. If you end up not liking that book, my favorite beginning java book is "Java: an introduction to computer science and programming" by Savitch. A new edition just came out that covers java 1.5 as well. |
I have to admit that, ZenMasterJG, you do sound as though as you hate the Dummies series completely. On the other hand, jstevenhall, the starter book you got is a great one! Why? It was my starter book! :D Seriously, Barry Burd has done a great job in writing the book. Unique chapter titles and content, a touch of humour (that, for once in a long time, that really made me laugh) yet it really brings the message across. If I'd recommend a book for people starting on Java, it's definitely this one!! :)

Thank you for both of your replies, its much appreciated and hopefully i will be able to pick up Java quickly and have a good understanding of it.
Jamie :) Dummies books rule!! Lol |
i would think VB can be compared to a meal. VB = dinner ready
java = everything from scratch to make the dinner. |
