free peer to peer file sharing

hi all,
Since i dont feel like making one myself.. hehe.. is there a free peer to peer file sharing application... just like kazaa or napster but not internet based.. for ur local LAN.. so i can have file sharing with my roommate and neighbors on our LAN.

Even simpler would be to set up an FTP server that everyone on your network has access too.

yes, but id like the files to be distributed rather than centralized...
imagine you have songs a,b,c,d and i have e,f,g,h
you should be able to login and search for song "g" just like you do on Kazaa.. and then download it from me.

You can look into DC++ and related hub software. That's what we used back when I was in the dorms :P It requires someone to host the hub, but otherwise people can download each other's files. Make sure, of course, that you do so legally... *whistles*

I'm not 100% positive, but I believe there's a Linux distro designed for just that purpose. I'll check into it and let you know what I can come up with.
