Hmm...Poker anyone?
Well there i was sitting there in my chair listening to music thinging about what i could do to pass some time over the next week.
After a bit of thinking i decide that perhaps the solution was to make a simple text based or GUI depending on different factors, game. So after thinking about what multiplayer games are out there i fially decided that Texas Hold 'em could be and interesting game to make. So after a little while of thinking about it become clear that it was too hard to design a server and client to allow say upto4 people to play in 1 lobby at a time. But then me being me i have an issue with getting projects finished so i decided i would post my idea here and see if anyone was interested in making this project just for something to do. As a learning aid, fun, to pass time, or as a reminder. No language restrictions have been placed as of yet as there is both a client and server application to be developed so it is possible for at LEAST 2 languages to be used. Basically whether it is text based or GUI based depends upon who is interested / how many are interested if any and what people would prefer. Just what i've been thinking Chris for those that don't know texas hold 'em |

Yeh, I'll give it a go if you want...... it's an idea.
It would be interesting to see if anyone else is interested. It would be nice to discuss ideas for something like this. |

Re: Hmm...Poker anyone?
My favourite language at the moment is C++ and I can see it would be possible to do it like this but again I'd like to discuss it with others to hear input of ideas. Another possibility would be VB.NET. GUIs and consoles are a possibility of both.
What do you think? |
Re: Hmm...Poker anyone?
for easy of GUI development VB .NEt would be easier, i myself am a Python programmer but i could look into other languages pretty quick. Python and wxPython is not bad at all for GUI's. i guess it depends on other views really. But i can look into other languages and build a quick base as to go from.

Re: Hmm...Poker anyone?
Great! I haven't dabbled with Python much but if you want I'll see if I can pick up a bit of that as well and maybe we could have a look at doing it Python?

Re: Hmm...Poker anyone?
well quite a few people have a good understandingof Python already on these forums so it is a possiblity but it depends if we get more interest

Re: Hmm...Poker anyone?
I'll be able to help out with the occasional hitch via the Python forums, but I've got some very busy weeks ahead of me. I can't even see myself being available for anything fun until maybe April 20th.

Re: Hmm...Poker anyone?
Hmm... I had a same idea awhile ago, wanted to create a poker software. I started to design it while coding. The result was working 1 table poker soft supporting 1-10 players, pretty bug free, creates side pots correctly etc. Flash client, PHP-server(lol). Then I got bored and didn't want to continue the creation of a complete poker site with real money support :D Even though that kind of project would be interesting to develop.
