Insane computer problem
Someone described this in an AIM convo with me. Can anyone give a reason for this bizarre occurence? It really confounded me.

Re: Insane computer problem
it was probably an easter egg in the game. if you knew what game it was you could propbably look up more info on it.

Re: Insane computer problem
It is most likely windows narrator.

Re: Insane computer problem
To me it sounds more like a virus than an easter egg.... but you know, that is cool if they program games to freeze up on you and not allow you to do anything about it.

Re: Insane computer problem
Try typing your bank details into word or notepad (you could use something else) and in three days if you don't receive a letter from your bank then it's definitely windows narrator.

Re: Insane computer problem
I would not suggest following Kruptof's advice in this situation. If in fact there is a virus and it does steal your data, then you have just given your bank info to someone, congrats on being foolish.
His advice is basically saying, this food could be poisoned, eat it and if you dont die in a few days.... I'd recomment looking into the issue logically, testing the text to speech voice to ensure they are the same, testing your computer for viruses and spyware, and if you still can't find anything, I'd take it to someone who knows more than you. |

Re: Insane computer problem
There may be an accessibility feature in Windows that you accidentally turned on (Windows Narrator, judging by the responses so far). There is probably a specific key combination you can press to turn it on/off.

Re: Insane computer problem
titanium reflects my thoughts on the issue. it does sound like a hardware conflict, like 2 programs trying to use the same sound card channel at the same time or something, what with the screeching and all.
the weirdness could be related to the game using a lot of the pc's resources, and then on top of that, having a control fight between narrator and the game for the sound card resources, could cause the sound to slow down, or possibly it's just doubling the same sound through the channels, making it longer. just a guess though |

@titan
Keyboard actions Display the Start menu by pressing CTRL+ESC (or the Windows logo key ). · Press R. · Type narrator. · Press ENTER. Note: A message box with a link to more information about Narrator may appear. To close the box, press ENTER. To use Narrator but hide the Narrator dialog box, select Minimize by pressing ALT+SPACEBAR, N. To turn off Narrator, in the Narrator dialog box, press ALT+X, Y." From Microsoft XP Web Page http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...atorturnon.asp ------------------------ As far as a hardware issues goes, that to me doesn’t seem likely, but my understanding of that is very limited. My hopes are that this thread may gain the attention of some of the more knowledgeable players on this forum. |
