math

do u need to know math in order to use VB?

It would only help you in the long run.

No unless what you want to do involves math, ie making a geometry calculation program.

no you don't need math but .... really you kinda do.

crawforddavid2006 Aug 22nd, 2007 2:56 AM

you technically dont need math for any programming unless you start using algorithms, and equations, and well i guess yeah you do need math

When I first started out programming(Using VB), I sucked at math. But I found out that when I started my math grades started to rise because I would transfer the math problems into a programming problem. Starting out you don't really need it but as you learn more, and you have the means to make bigger and better programs it will help.

Its just like do you need to know how to read to talk? not necessarily, but its highly recommended. Same goes with programming, chances are, if you presue programming, but don't need to use math in any of your applications, your not getting very far.

This isn't really a language specific question. Eventually you'll need math no matter what language you use. But to answer your question it really depends on what you're attempting to do.

As I always said, long as you can add, subtract multiply and divide, you should be fine for basic programming. You need to know how to do the most basic equations. But you will find, as you go along in programming, math will make sense because you are putting it to use. It's hard to understand why we need the math they teach in school, but once I started to move up in programming, some of the more advanced topics got through to me and made sense.

If you have to write a circuit simulator for a motor-control servo, tell the boss to get someone else to do it! ;)
