Tablet PC Edition software on non tablet PC?
 

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to get the Microsoft Physics Illustrator for Tablet PC Power toy to install on Windows XP Professional?

I was hoping they might have been kind enough to allow it, unfortunately, it refuses to install on anything but Windows XP Tablet PC edition.

The reason i wanted to do this, is to see if it is suitable for use on an Interactive White board.

Screw proprietary software. You don't get this kind of bull with Open Source.

Of course you also don't get Microsoft Physics Illustrator - off the top of my head I don't know of a free alternative (but hey, have a hunt!).

A kludgy workaround that springs to mind would be to use virtualisation so that you could actually install a virtual tablet on your XP box. Of course the licensing cost is a bit prohibitive and it's awkward and resource hungry ... but welcome to Microsoft World. :)

So, i downloaded the Source form Microsoft as posted above, along with an app that lets me extract files from withing a .msi (lesmisierable or something like that)

this allowed me to get the help files and some example physics files.

Installed the Visual C++ Express edition from microsofts site, un-flagged all of the files from the source archive as being "read only" (damn pricks) and re-compiled it.

It runs.. but its gestures are overly buggy, and its general un-responsive with its input, i am not sure if this is because i am running it on windows XP.

Eitherway, if its input and control set were better (has no copy + paste or even undo support :( ) then it would suit my purposes well, as it stands, its around 80% a case of get it right the first time, or start over.

ps: there is no open source version that looked "easy" to get runng.. now that i have done this, there was one on sourceforge that required compiling, i might give it a crack later.

@McKenga: If you can find an open source BMW (or even a Chevy or Beetle) that's free, and runs as well on the moon as on earth, please let me know. I'm in the market (for zero bucks, of course). Someone out there must be disinterested in profit.
