Jobs After High School - Anywhere in USA
 

Hey yall. I graduate May 10 from HS.Pretty nervous about getting out from under my parents and everything living on my own, bills, etc. I was working at a Sonic up here, but decided to quit because my grades was affected. So right now, I am loking for a job anywhere. i dont have expereince in anything really. I'm looking for something maybe in security, you know guard, systems installer. But anything really. I'll do anything, long as it pays good. I dont mind traveling, or relocating. But this could only be for this summer, because I start college in the fall, unless it's close by, which I don't think many people on this forum know much of jobs in Arkansas. But right now, I'm trying ot get an interview at Guardmark in Conway, and Vance International, in Little Rock. But please if yall have any ideas, or know something about a job that a HS graduate could do with no experience, please let me know. My best friends climbs towers, and repairs them, and he said there was alot of jobs up north, and on the coasts, but I aint been able to find much on monster that a HS grdaute could do without some sort of experience. SO let me know if yall got anything.

Not likely man. Do you have a car & lic.? I just finished high school last year. I took a job in Alberta. Decided to come back about 2 months ago. If you want big money, trades is the way to go. Welding is huge, even in the states. But if you want something in computers, don't count on it. Even security. No one is going to hire you and pay you big money unless you have experience or an education. Not even if you are always at work on time, hardworking etc. You need to make at LEAST 14/hr to survive on your own. How do you plan on making money while you are at school. Why should an employer pay you a ton of money just for two months, then you bail out and go back to school. A month of that is going to be training. Let alone you'll probably be getting paid training wage for the first 500 hours. If you are smart, you won't move out yet. If you are going to do anything, find patience.

"Pay well" and "summer job for HS graduate" aren't usually synonymous. I would go look in the college town before your classmates beat you to it. If you aren't going to need it during school, you don't need it now, so just take the summer off and play.

Well I havent actually decided if it was going to be for the summer yet or not. If it pays well I might take a year or so off of school and work and save up. Some of my friends that have gradauted last year, took jobs in Wyoming, and they make $20/hr traveling all across the US setting up cables for towers and stuff like that. I have thought about going to Alaska and working on that oil; pipeline. They are always needing help. But I can weld. Also I didnt mean anything in computers, I knew this was pretty much impossiblew. When I said secueiryt, I mean like security guard, or working for a compnay lie ADt installing security systems or something.

Also thanks ofr the advice DaWei, but right now I'm going to a community collewge just to get my General Education requirements then I plan on transferring to UALR, and just take the Core Ed.

But what I do about the job, depends if I get my pell grant or whatever. I dont want to get a student loan, so thats why I might take a year and save all my money. thanks yall

I don't know about over in the states but in here the student loan is a good deal for students, because you don't pay it back until you're earning over a certain amount and you pay it back bit by bit and it's interest is very small.

If you do decide to work for a year you should try to use your earnings for living costs or put aside for when you finish your education so that at least you have something to bounce back on if you don't get a job immediately after you finish your education.

Well in the UK the only places i know off that you can work without some sort of education is in the shop floors of supermarkets and in warehouses packing some boxes. So yeah i think it's worth the investment unless you get a buzz out of stacking shelves or getting the minimum wage, having said that there are other careers that require no higher education, such as rubbish collectors, or bus drivers, i heard they get quite a lot, but it totally depends on what you like you doing.

I don't know about cost over in the states, but in UK you would end up with at least £15k in debt by the time you graduate.

During high school I worked for the Corps of Engineers as a contract student / engineering aide. It paid fairly well. If you plan on being in Little Rock, then there is a district in that area.

After high school I enrolled directly in college that summer. I went to school back to back, until I graduated. I wouldn't do that again, even if you paid me. If this is only a temp job... take the summer off. If you want a job to sustain you through college, obtain one in the city where you will be enrolled.

Where do you live? Uk? I wish we had a student loans program like that, they wouldn't give me enough funds to complete school and I am still expected to pay it all back, it doesn't matter how much or how little I make.

Allthough it is fair to point out that they havn't actually seen any of it yet as I refuse to pay until I completely school, which I am now just going to pay for out of my pocket. (Finally I have a job that will let me do that).
