File Sharing between vista and XP

Does anyone know how I can share files between a Windows Vista Computer and a Windows XP computer over a network? I've tried and have come up with no solutions so if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

I know with XP you can share a folder and then access by going \\[computername]\share folder or \\[ip]\share folder. but I don't know if that'll work in Vista.

unfortunately that doesnt work... i tried both ways... anyone got any other ideas?

If you have a domain, you might be able to do that, have a shared folder on the server. If not, open your case and put one hard drive in the other computer, copy the files, then put the hard drive back.

PhilBon's method works fine for me. Make sure the machines are on the same workgroup or domain.

Thats a bit extreme just to share a folder, it works though :D

Well.. this is on same topic anyways.. let me know if I should start a new thread for this question:

I want to share a network drive with someone else over the internet. Normally, I just use Win Xp from my local network and "map network drive" 192.168.1.104 with a username root and a password.

Does anyone know if I can actually share this network drive over the internet? So that I can access it from school? I'm guessing by setting up port forwarding on my router it can connect to the local IP (at home), 192.168.1.104. But can this actually work? and how would I connect if my IP address if my IP from home was '142.55.208.186'.

Also, is there a big security risk with this?

Any ideas?

You'd be safer using WinSCP from school and running an SSH server at home.

thx.. I just set up an SSH server at home, just looking into WinSCP now.
