Military School

Well, my father keeps throwing military school at me, although I'm not sure if the message is I'm sending you to military school if you screw up again, or do you want to go to military school. I've actually been seriously considering it, much to my own surprise. I don't know too much about it, but I've been reading a bit. From what I do know, things I would like include:
-Living away from my parents
-Better grades
-Probably would get in better shape
Thing I don't like or don't know about:
-I would only get to come home once every few weeks for the weekend (and breaks)
-It's much more structured.
-uniforms.
-Far less computer, tv, and electronics in general time (Although this could be viewed as a healthy thing for me).

He's been hinting at Fork Union military school in partiular. But I'm just curious if anyone has some advice, experience, etc. about it. I've consulted my friends, but none know anything, and I'm hesitant about talking to family just yet, although I'll probably end up there eventually. I've been reading some websites and stuff, and I was just curious if anyone here knew anything.

How long would you be going for?

Well, at this point I would only be there until the end of the year; a semester. Whether I would continue going I wouldn't know until being there awhile.

SO I guess a semester minumum, possibly the rest of school (I'm a sophomore)

Here's an idea. Behave. Being enough of a fuck up to get sent to military school isn't as cool as you think it is.

(Assuming that's the reason, anyways. If not disregard this idea.)

My dad would like to say a few words from experience...

"The military will give you 'focus' in your life, and maybe motivation to achieve more than you thought possible. But, as for the other aspects of the experience, let's just say, the 'join the military because' commercials are a complete bunch of false hype ads. For example, I was promised money for a college degree if I joined the military, but during boot camp, the military made us sign away our rights to the money for college. Etc. You are doing the smart thing; ask around, and then ask around some more. If you do decide to join, then I would sign up only for officer candidate school, in a computer related MOS, with ALL the paperwork completed and approved BEFORE I signed the bottom line and left for processing. Good luck."

Not a "fuck up", really. More of a grades thing and slacking off, not being goal oriented, etc... From what I can tell, it seems like he's offering me the chance to go here, not forcing me to. So I'm not really getting "shipped off".

Plus, the school is like, 45 minutes from where I live, so it's not like I'd be away by some ungodly distance.

And this isn't really the military, technically, I can't join the military due to medical reasons, they won't accept me. This is a "Military style academy". But thanks for the tip.

Also, semi related, just don't want to make another topc. They say you can take a laptop with you, and so I'm pulling out the old pain in the ass dell (Which I've made like, 5 million topics on). But does anyone have any links to how to install windows from the hard drive. Like, copying the entire cd to hard disk and installing it from there. Thanks.

My cousin and brother-in-law attended a youth challenge program at a military training school. Did them a world of good, even earned college credits as well as their GED.

Military style private school also isn't such a 'fuck-up' thing that you think it is. I was lucky enough to get a scholarship to one where lots of rich bastards send their kids and it was well worth it. I'm sure the actual schools vary a lot and I'm not sure what the one/ones you are looking at are like, but you learn a lot and get to experience something not normally available. You might be surprised at how well you like it too. If you are used to having a lot of freedom and spare time then it might come as a pretty big shock. Typical public schools are like a joke compared to military boarding schools

well, i was in the military for a few years, my assumption (based on partial-ignorance) is that unlike the real military...you can quit. so if you're interested, try it out. most of the unhappy crap is a mind game anyway. there's a good movie called something like "the lords of discipline" or some weird crap like that that's pretty interesting (and also total fiction).

reminds of bill and ted's excellent adventure, which also coincidentally is keaneu reeve's greatest acting, since i assume he was typecast. :p
